...เมื่อหลายเดือนก่อนผมมีโอกาสได้พบนักจักรยานชาวอังกฤษโดยบังเอิญก็ "แซม"แหละครับ และเพราะวันนั้น มันเลยเป็นที่มาของทริปนี้ครับ จริงๆแล้วปีนี้ผมไม่ได้มีแผนมาปั่นที่อินโดฯเลย ผมมีแผนปั่นไปประเทศอื่นไว้แล้ว แต่อะไรก็เกิดขึ้นได้ จากวันนั้นผมกับบุญเลิศปั่นไปส่งแซมที่กรุงเทพฯ เราคุยกันเล่นๆว่า ไม่แน่นะ เราอาจไปร่วมทริปด้วย เราแค่คุยเอาขำ แซมก็ฮา แต่แซมไม่ฮาเปล่าๆ เอารูปเราสามคนไปลงนสพ.New straits times ของอังกฤษ สาขามาเลเซียซะอีก ผมละงง รูปอื่นมีเป็นพันๆทำไมแซมเลือกรูปนี้

... I met Sam Gambier, a British world-touring cyclist, by pure chance. That was the beginning of my journey in Indonesia. I didn't actually have a plan to visit Indonesia at that time since I already had in mind a biking trip in another country. However, anything could happen out of nothing. While Boonlert, a close friend, and I accompanied Sam while he biked from Ayutthaya to Bangkok, we joked that we might join Sam in the Indonesian leg of his world tour.

Sam laughed when I explained our supposed joke to him. It was hilarious at that time among us. But Sam not only had fun with us about that joke, he supplied a photo of the three of us in Ayutthaya for The New Straits Times newspaper in Malaysia. That perplexed me for a while since he had with him thousands of shots along his travelling but he selected this particular shot for the paper.

My Indonesia

...เดิมๆตั้งใจจะเอาภาพนักจักยานพเนจรชาวอินโดฯท่านนี้ขึ้นเป็นไตเติ้ล ในการบรรยายทริปในwww.thaimtb.com แต่กลัวเพื่อนๆสับสน เลยต้องหารูปอื่นๆแทน ผมทึ่งกับนักจักรยานพเนจรผู้นี้มากๆ ที่นี่ภูเขาสูงชัน ยังนึกไม่ออกว่าแกปั่นขึ้นมาได้อย่างไร เสียดาย วันนั้นผมก็ลืมถามซะนี่

...ในที่สุดก็ได้แบบปก เสียดายที่ขาดจักรยานของแซมไปหนึ่งคัน เลยไม่ครบสามคัน แต่ก็มีภาพรองปกแล้ว เป็นภาพสามเรา

This photo of an Indonesian biking nomad was intended as a cover picture in my post on the Indonesian journey at: http://www.thaimtb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=164111 , but I was afraid it would confuse my readers. This nomadic biker impressed me to a great extent and gained my big respect. That was a huge mountain in my thinking and I couldn't imagine how he brought his vehicle up there. It's a pity I forgot to ask him about that.

The top photo was then selected for the cover but it was without Sam's bike. However, all thee of us appear in the second photo.

“Almost all of my clothes are torn apart. Mook and Boonlert bought me some new T-shirts,” he said, referring to Thai friends who had provided him with fresh clothes. Gambier met Mook and Boonlert last year at a bar in Bangkok, during the Thailand leg of his journey. The two asked if they could accompany him on part of his quest to cycle the world, with the three agreeing to meet up in Jakarta. “Other than preparing themselves for a cycling competition, they also want to improve their English,” Gambier said.
