.... มีราปี ภูเขาไฟที่ยังที่ตื่นทุกวัน เราสามคนปั่นขึ้นเขาตั้งแต่เช้า ถึงที่พักตอนประมาณ 5 โมงเย็น เราอาบน้ำ เดินเล่น คลายเส้น แล้วรีบเข้านอน เพื่อจะตื่นให้ทันตี 1 ของวันใหม่ เพื่อเดินขึ้นสู่ส่วนสุงสุด ที่สูงประมาณ 2914 เมตร เหนือระดับน้ำทะเล ผมนอนไม่หลับเลย ตี 1 เราถือไฟหน้าจักรยาน ส่องทางที่มืดมิด บางครั้งต้องไต่กันแบบสี่ขา กว่าจะถึงยอดเขาก็เกือบๆตี 5 เป็นเวลาที่ท้องฟ้ายังมีแสงสีฟ้าคราม ก่อนจะค่อยๆกลายเป็นสีส้ม มันงดงามเกินบรรยายเราอยู่สูงกว่าเมฆมากๆ ด้วยอุณหภูมิน้อยกว่า 14 องศา ท่ามกลางไอที่พวยพุ่งของมีราปีรอบๆตัวเรา เราและ เพื่อนร่วมทางต่างเอามือ หน้า ส่วนต่างๆของร่างกาย อิงอุ่นคลุกเคล้ากับใอสีขาวที่ล่องลอยมาจากความร้อนอันลึกล้ำใต้โลก บรรเทาความหนาวเย็น บรรเจิด มันทั้งบรรเจิด น่าตื่นเต้นและตระการตามากๆ ผมหาคำเปรียบความมหัศจรรย์ใหม่ ที่ผมเพิ่งได้สัมผัส ไม่ได้ดีกว่าคำพวกนี้จริงๆ
สองชั่วโมงประมาณนั้น เราไต่ลงเขา อีกประมาณเกือบๆสี่ชั่วโมง ถึงที่พักประมาณ 11 โมงเช้า เพื่องีบสักหนึ่งชั่วโมง ก่อนจะปั่นออกไปยังเมืองข้างหน้าที่อยู่ห่างไปอีก 117 กม. เป็นวันหนึ่งที่เป็นที่สุดของที่สุดสำหรับทริปนี้ แต่มันสุดคุ้มเพราะมัน บรรเจิดในใจ สว่างไสวเจิดจรัสมากๆ สำหรับชีวิตที่แสนสั้นของผม หากเทียบกับความยืนยงอมตะของมัน "มีราปี"

Merapi, a very active volcano. On that particular day the three of us cycled uphill from early in the morning and arrived at the resort around 5p.m. After warming down by walking around and taking a bath we went to bed early in order to get up at 1a.m. for a trekking to the volcano's summit of about 2,914m MSL. I couldn't sleep at all. At one o'clock we took along with us bike torchlights and started climbing the height, part of which we had to crawl on all fours. We reached the summit at 5 o'clock close to sunrise. The sky was still dark blue at first light then slowly turned into deep and light orange. A beauty beyond my expression.Being much higher above the cloud at Merapi's summit we were, amidst 14 degrees Celcius, engulfed in the crater's belching vapour. All visitors tried to embrace the warmth of the mystical, white subterranean vapour with our hands, faces and all parts of the body. It was magnificent and spectacular especially for me. A very striking, marvelous experience that I couldn't find proper words to describe what I had seen and touched.After two hours on the crater, we took four hours for a descent and arrived at the house at 11a.m. With about an hour's rest we cycled for another 117km to the next town. This was one of a harshest days on this cycling trip but I thought it was really a worthwhile effort. The splendid feeling on the Merapi crater has always rekindled up in my mind all the time. It is a very, very bright and vibrant experience in my rather short life, in comparison with the immortal Merapi.***************************************************************
โบรโม ภูเขาไฟที่ยังไม่ดับ เราปั่นไต่ขึ้นภูเขาที่ชันมากๆอีกลูกเพื่อดูมัน ก่อนที่เราจะดาวน์ลงมา เราปั่นลอดสายหมอกเบื้องล่างไปสัมผัสโบรโมไกล้ๆ ไม่ง่ายนักเพราะเส้นทางที่จะไปนั้น มันเป็นทราย เราปั่นตุปัดตุเป๋ไปเรื่อยๆ บางช่วงต้องเข็นเพราะล้อเราจมทรายจนไปไม่ได้ คนอื่นน่ะเหรอ ไม่ขี่ม้าก็รถจี๊ป มีฮัมเมอร์วิ่งส่วนทางเราไป พวกเขาแปลกใจนิดหน่อยเมื่อเห็นเราปั่นจักรยานในเส้นทางเดียวกับเขา โบรโม มันเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในโลกที่ตระการตามากๆ ไม่แพ้มีราปี แต่ผมกลับติดใจ มีราปีมากกว่า ด้วยว่าเส้นทางที่จะได้ชมมัน สุดโหดจริงๆ
